Since the terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, recurring deployments have become a fact of life for Army families.
Soldiers from the communities of U.S. Army Garrison Hessen are currently serving around the globe in such places as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and stand ready to deploy at a moment’s notice wherever they are needed.
As 1st Armored Division Soldiers gear up once again to take up arms and go into harm’s way for Operation Iraqi Freedom, many other local units such as elements of the 3rd Corps Support Command, 709th Military Police Battalion, 421st Medical Evacuation Battalion, among others, have already answered the call and are providing security, medical expertise and Soldier know-how for those in need around the world.
This edition of the Herald Union is dedicated to informing readers about the many programs and services available to support them while Soldiers answer the call. Advice on helping children cope, the role of Family Readiness Groups and storing personal property while deployed are among the topics.
