‘Operation R&R: Block Leave’

AFRC expands program for redeploying Soldiers, families

With U.S. Army Europe Soldiers and civilians soon redeploying from Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, the Armed Forces Recreation Centers-Europe have expanded the “Operation R&R” program to include redeployed service members on block leave status. This program was only open to OIF/OEF service members on 14-day R&R leave in the past.

“Operation R&R: Block Leave” will offer the base R&R package, plus one additional overnight. The AFRC-Europe “Operation R&R” program base package provides two overnights at the General Von Steuben or General Patton Hotels, two dinners and two breakfasts for $90 for a single traveler or $120 for double occupancy. As part of the special block leave package, Soldiers and civilians may obtain a third overnight stay.

Singles are an additional $45 and doubles are $60. Youths (ages 13-17) are charged $9 per day and children under 12 stay and dine at the hotel free. Additional nights may be added on-site following arrival, based on availability.

While staying at the resort, Soldiers, civilians and their families may take advantage of the many tours and recreational activities offered by AFRC Europe for $15 per day.

AFRC Europe has been providing vacations for service members and their families for more than 58 years, AFRC-E officials said. Set in the heart of the Bavarian Alps, AFRC-Europe is the perfect place to start exploring southern Germany, learn a new sport or simply relax in picturesque surroundings.

The “Operation R&R: Block Leave” program allows block leave participants to spend quality time relaxing with family,” said Richard LeBrun, AFRC-Europe general manger. “We want to help service members have a unique experience and plenty of rest in order to be ready to continue their important missions.”

Service members can hit the powdery slopes with the help of the AFRC-Europe ski and snowboarding school, hike through rocky gorges along rushing rivers or go sledding with the family.

AFRC guests may also visit some of Europe’s most famous sights with the Garmisch tour program. Trips to historic Munich, King Ludwig’s grand palaces of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof or a shopping spree through three different countries are featured.

“Whether service members want to get out and enjoy their leave in Europe with our recreation and tours programs, or just simply relax in our comfortable facilities, AFRC is the perfect place to visit,” said LeBrun.
